The Problem

Ghost gear is an operational and evidence problem.

Abandoned, lost, or otherwise discarded fishing gear is commonly described as ghost gear or ALDFG. It can continue fishing, entangle wildlife, damage habitat, create navigation hazards, and complicate cleanup and disposal.

Existing reporting systems are essential, but crews still need a practical way to capture complete local evidence during field work—especially when connectivity is weak, responsibilities change, or several organizations participate.

GGX does not replace official systems

GGX prepares and preserves evidence. Official sightings and commercial lost or retrieved gear reports must still be completed through the applicable government or authorized reporting pathway.

GGX does not claim partnership

References to DFO, GGGI, ports, communities, or First Nations describe external systems, demonstration profiles, or future collaboration pathways—not endorsement or formal integration.

Coordinates, overview photos, gear description, hazard level, species observations, notes, and time.

Vessel and crew, process photos, estimated weight, dock destination, assistance events, and evidence holds.

Field Design

Built for the next correct action.

The Cockpit is organized around one question: What does the operator need to do next? The screen separates incident evidence from reference context and displays a single state-driven action rather than a menu of competing tasks.

Offline-capable local storage

Records save locally on the device. The current public build demonstrates local persistence and a simulated sync queue.

Explicit provenance

Reference values display source, confidence, freshness, and demonstration status. Missing live data is not silently invented.

Human authority

The system structures evidence and highlights requirements. Operators and authorized organizations retain decision and reporting authority.
